About MEAN WELL
MEAN WELL is one of the world’s few manufacturers dedicated to standard power supply products. Founded in 1982 by Mr Jerry Lim, who still heads up the company today began producing Apple & IBM compatible switching power supplies. The name “MEAN WELL” was derived from his English dictionary meaning “have good intentions”.
Thanks to partnerships with more than 200 authorised distributors around the world, MEAN WELL employs over 2,800 employees globally with a combined revenue of USD 1,001 million in 2019. It is ranked 4th in global power supply (DC output) manufacturers as of March 2020.

LED drivers are critical components in an LED fixture. The role it plays is exactly like that of a heart in the human body and similar to how we require a healthy heart to help regulate the functions of other parts, an LED driver is required to control a fixture.- The LED driver is responsible for the dimming capabilities of the fixture. If the driver is of poor quality, you will notice the difference in its light output. It can lead to flickering, which is an unpleasant experience for a user. Conversely, quality LED drivers can generate dimming levels as low as one percent without compromising on the light output.
- LEDs last longer than their incandescent and fluorescent counterparts thanks to temperature control. As such, the driver sends the correct amount of current to the LEDs to produce more light. It helps to reduce the internal ambient heat, which increases the lifespan of both the driver and the LED.
- If you’ve encountered an LED setup where there was a significant delay from the time the switch turned on to when the bulbs illuminated, it could be because of a poor-quality driver. The start-up time of the LED driver is responsible and not the luminaire. A driver that supports a quick start-up should have times of 0.75 seconds and below for non-connected drivers or 1.0 second and below for connected LED drivers.
